The data controller for this website is Mario Del Giudice (SorrentoHikes), Sorrento Peninsula, Italy. For any question about cookies, write to hello@sorrentohikes.com.
A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to store, so it can remember something between page views or visits. Local storage (localStorage) is a similar mechanism built into your browser that keeps a small piece of data on your device until it is cleared. Both live in your browser, not on our servers.
SorrentoHikes uses only the bare minimum: one strictly-necessary item to remember your cookie choice, and — only if you agree — anonymous analytics. We do not use cookies to identify you, to track you across other sites, or to show you advertising.
When you answer the cookie banner, we store a single key called "sh-consent" in your browser. Its only job is to remember whether you accepted or declined analytics, so we do not ask you again on every page.
This key is stored on your device and persists until you clear the site data in your browser. It contains no personal information and is never sent to advertisers. Because it is strictly necessary to honour your own choice, it does not require separate consent (Art. 122 of the Italian Privacy Code; Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
If, and only if, you accept analytics in the banner, we load an analytics tool that collects anonymous, aggregated statistics about which pages are read. Nothing is loaded before you agree, and this never identifies you personally. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time.
Analytics provider: Google Analytics 4, provided by Google Ireland Limited. Once you accept, it sets two cookies — _ga and _ga_83SF2YP0F3 (both last up to 2 years) — used to tell anonymous visitors and sessions apart and to measure which pages and buttons are used. GA4 anonymises IP addresses by default; data may be transferred outside the EU under the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
If you decline, no analytics cookies or scripts are loaded at all.
Some content on this site is served from other companies. To deliver that content, your browser connects directly to their servers, which therefore receive your IP address and may set or read their own cookies:
Google Fonts — the site currently loads fonts from Google’s servers, which receives your IP address to serve them.
Pexels — photographs are served from the Pexels image CDN (images.pexels.com), which receives your IP to deliver the images.
These requests are needed to display the page and are not used by us for advertising or profiling.
We set no advertising, marketing or profiling cookies of any kind. We do not build a profile of you, we do not track you across other websites, and we do not sell or share your data for advertising.
You can change your mind at any time. To bring the cookie banner back and choose again, clear this site’s data in your browser — this removes the "sh-consent" key, so the banner reappears on your next visit.
You can also block or delete cookies directly from your browser settings. Every major browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge) lets you view stored cookies and local storage, delete them, or refuse them entirely. Note that the site works fine without analytics; the strictly-necessary consent key simply keeps the banner from reappearing.

We may update this policy, for example once the analytics tool is confirmed. The date below always shows the current version.
